I'm always amazed at being able to take off on a backroad in any direction from my house and come across beautiful countryside and historic stately homes!
I also think I appreciate it more because I grew up in South Florida where you only see (other than the lovely beaches) condos and traffic, or cows and orange trees....depending on which direction you head.
On the way to Hogansville I found an antique mall I had never been to in McDonough! Don't know how I've lived here so long and missed this one!
It's a lot bigger than it looks, and I found a few things here, although the prices were a bit higher than I hoped.
Cool humongous birdcage!
This corner full of "stuff" was in Fayetteville , and I did find some rusty treasures, although it is mostly pretty rough.
Near Hogansville on old route 29 is a little town called Grantville, where I screeched brakes for my favorite sighting: DERELICTION!!
I wish I knew the story of this interesting place.....
This was my destination in Grantville.....I found it listed on-line as a place for architectural antiques, but I have never caught the place open!!!! It's called "Re-Use The Past" and has lots of windows and doors outside, so I am curious as to what might be INSIDE!
The mostly abandoned buildings in downtown Grantville are of varied architectural styles and pretty interesting......
I bet this place has been used as a movie set before, or it should be anyway!
I didn't buy much, but this was my little haul......
I really love the texture of this old rusty wire cable above.....
......and here's the green cupboard for CLF. (I'll take the door off for the show and it will provide great vertical display space)
What a lovely old house. Would have been neat to see what it looked like inside. The antique mall sounded like a fun stop. Always nice discovering new ones.
ReplyDeleteIf I ever win a lottery (which I won't, but a girl can dream) I would want to buy an old downtown and restore it. This one would be perfect!

Girl...if you and I would have been together, we may have had to go and sneak a peek at that old house...if walls could talk...I love rummaging thru old buildings and homes...they whisper our names. Great post. Tiff
ReplyDeleteOh man, I have got to follow our footsteps. What a marvelous road trip this has been. Loving the cupboard. Sea Witch
ReplyDeleteLooks like you got some awesome things.I agree this is a wonderful road trip and your pictures are so good it is like we were there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, I'm trying hard to do the right thing and not covet thy path. Love the derelict building, I would be curious about it too.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful old houses, such charm. Looks like a great road trip.
ReplyDeleteMy brakes would've been feeling the pain too...what a grand ol' dame that house must've been in her day, I can spend hours just looking at them and wondering what tales could be told...love the old clock case and frame, but then I'm a sucker for old frames!
ReplyDeleteSnow is gone, but baby it's cold outside!!!
Hi sweetie!!!! You were in my stomping grounds!!!! I wished I could have met you there and we could have junked together ~ Planter's is a little high to me too, you've got to be able to make money....I buy small things from them, mostly for my artwork. I remember the giant birdcage too! I used to own a store right off the square but seems since all the big box stores were built, business just dried up. I live in Locust Grove but had the store in McDonough for several years. So glad you were able to find a few goodies!!!! hugs and love, Dawn
ReplyDeleteI too love old buildings, and often force myself not to tresspass! You might like my post "Redwood Falls, MN" at www.minnesotajunker.blogspot.com

Hello there Sassytrash! I just discovered your awesome blog! I'm loving this post - thanks for all the location info. I'm in Gainesville, GA, and would love to spend a weekend browsing all these shops. It's a bit of a drive, but now that I know where some of these are it'll be worth it! I am following you now, and will try not to be a stalker, but can't promise because I think we are kindred souls. I love the thrill of the hunt and all the treasures you've found! Hope we can become good friends!
ReplyDeleteI have to say it too, you are in my stomping grounds now. Have been several times to that antique mall often... and in fayetteville i have never braved that salvage yard; okay lets just say it junk yard, lol. been through grantville often. it is such a small world.

I loved looking at all your great pictures .. My hubby and I used to take lots of road trips in our RV and our favorite thing to do was to drive around looking at houses... they have so much history and I also loved looking at their gardns for inspiration ... Thanks for posting such great stuff.

As always, your roadtrips make me want to go on another one! Today is Nashville Flea Mkt. and my husband and I had a brief conversation about going this morning. We quickly decided not to because we are getting so close to completion of our renovation, and that means so likelihood of "normal" living. I am really sick of being stuck to this house every day trying to get this done. Practicality won out, and I am going to finish cleaning hardwood in new living room today. Love the old house you featured!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the birdcage!
