Road Trip: The Incredible Jane.........

Sometimes, when I angst about not being able to travel to CA or WA or TX where so much of the hot antique/art action is, I forget there are places to explore in my own backyard.

Nestled near the old downtown area of Gainesville, GA is the most incredible shop, and the most incredibly talented metal sculptor named Jane Taylor.

I practically hyperventilated when I saw this place from the road.......now this is my kind of stuff.....rust and metal and BIG junk everywhere! Then when you pull in the drive and start to focus on the unique metal sculptures of every type....everywhere.....it's just amazing!

My photography does not come close to capturing the experience of discovering the magical wonderland of creativity in metal that you'll find here......

.....from a trumpeter and child.......

.....to a trellis with gramophone and shovel-head flowers and leaves.....

.....to a wonderful ballerina......

(check out all those details)

(love those door knob knees)

.....to a spider in a web......

....to a collaged metal bench.

There are also huge wood creations and architectural structures.....

And then INSIDE the cottage are more creations!

The above shelf is my favorite piece!

Awesome chandelier.....one of dozens--all so unique....

Cool button bouquet....

There's so much to see!

I changed my mind...this shelf is my favorite piece!

Well, maybe this angel is my favorite piece.....oh gosh...I love it all!

How cute is this adorable little kitten--one of two--that Jane had just rescued the day before! She has no tail...believed to be part Manx....and is so sweet! It was hard to not take her home with me!! Jane is hoping to keep the two together and find a perfect home for them!

I was so disappointed that my photographs of the GIANT yard flowers made from shovel heads, the angel on the roof, the 4' ant made from metal chair backs, the trash can cat, and many more didn't turn out.....I really need a better camera!
But you should see this amazing art, and meet this talented artist, in person anyway. (Jane is open Wed. through Sat.)

WOW! That place is amazing...I love the shelf and the birdhouse. Its amazing what can be made from scrap metal. I just discovered a sculptural artist named Helen Denerley in the UK, her pieces just blew me away. If you are interested in taking a look I can give you her website link, cheers for now, Tamara

Oh my...what an fun, wonderful shop filled with such imaginative sculptures! My fav is the trellis....I think?

I know what you mean about the Texas 'thing'. There are so many wonderful shops and shows. Well, at least we have Blogland to pretend to be there!

Susie

P.S. It could be worse....you could be here in Florida where there's nothing going on!

I believe the grass is often greener or perhaps in this case,,,,the "Rust is always rustier on the other side of the fence!"

I guess being a Washington Native, I don't think too much about other parts of the country....But This was a treat to experience! And don't worry about the photos,,,I'm usually in the same boat!

Oh, that kitty is cute,,I have two that would somewhat "match." I know doing things in 3's is stylish, but I think 2 dogs and two cats will suffice....But, oh,,Too cute!

Thanks for sharing,,,,,this was yummy!!!

Hugs,
Shell

I teared up reading your post! I'm a GA girl and I just had the exact same thoughts recently! I am so envious of all the other *junky* places that I read about in blogs, and forget about what is right here in my beautiful home state.
I have read about Jane Taylor's work, and your pictures are much more awesome than you give them credit. I only have a few more days left of break, I think I may be heading her way. With the heat, however, it might be best to wait on Fall break. Thanks for the wonderful post!

I feel your pain...what a great place, now tell me, you secretly want to weld metal too , right...it's something I've always wanted to venture out into, but without a garage...IMPOSSIBLE, but maybe someday!

Thanks for the tour, this was great fun!...and what talent, love the gramophone!

What at great place! That lady has some of your talent! She sure has a good imagination and vision to put things together. I made it to Nashville Sat. I didn't find much but saw the neatest iron pedestal. It reminded me of old barstools but had no screw holes, but very ornate and tall enough to be a table or base for one of your creations. I tried to buy it but the guy wanted 100 for it, and I just didnt got there. I only got a big silver spoon and a granite strainer. And it was HOT!!!
