While on road trips, I can't resist the urge to do some drive-by picture shooting (much to the annoyance of the drivers behind me) of cool, old architecture I see along the way. The house above was the best spooky old house--just waiting for Halloween night to put a little scare into those walking by!!
I loved being back in the land of live oak trees and spanish moss--they create a living architectural element all their own.
I can't say I saw such great houses this time, but they each have some nice architectural features that are inspiring to me somehow.....
I like the unique, but a bit overly decorative, posts on the above house...
And this one (it's a bit fuzzy from my camera shaking on the bumpy road) looks like it should be in New Orleans.
These aren't spectacular, but I prefer them to the elaborately renovated mansions! They are like little bits of history along the way, and I wish I could restore every one of them!
Great old buildings. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteGood grief!!! Each and EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. needs me living in it!!!
ReplyDeleteAugh! I'm drooling!!!

Loved the photos of the vintage homes......I'm a sucker for a house w/ a front porch. I can just visualize the ferns hanging and the rocking chairs out there!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it be lovely to be able to save and restore all the old houses back into homes. That will be my vocation, if ever the lottery I win....
ReplyDeleteThank you for all the kind words! We appreciate it so much! Come see us again real soon.

Those houses are like wonderful stories just waiting to be told. I love them. Keep showing us what you see since I never get to see many houses with that character. In Arizona everything is brown, new, and stucco.
ReplyDeleteI love old architecture! I love to look at old homes whereever I go.

Thanks for the lovely comments on my bag :) What fabulous houses, I love the first one! Tamara x
ReplyDeleteSo adore old homes as you do. Could live in the first one and the one that should be in New Orleans. Gotta agree with you about the land of Spanish Moss...there is something so spectagular about seeing hang from the trees. Sea Witch
ReplyDeleteYou went through Eufaula didn't you? I recognize that spooky old house. My house is just down the road from there. The town was seen in the first part of the movie Sweet Home Alabama. Just a few of the houses were and then they shot somewhere else.
ReplyDeleteNext time you will have to stop by and say hi.
Hugs

Oh my! That first home is absolutely DIVINE! I would love to rip that no trespassing sign down and move in.
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Love those old houses!
ReplyDeleteYou picked some good ones too!
Tammy :-)
Thanks for your sweet comment. Looks like your trip was backroads again. Don't blame you; the pictures are great. We have been doing the same thing here in n. Indiana. Love the Amish farms up here near Goshen and Shipshewana. We have our trailer filled to the bring now and leaving in the a.m. for Springfield. Can't wait. Wish you could come!
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your old house photos, I do the same. They are so unique and special. Wish I could go in some of them. Thanks! ~judy~
ReplyDeleteYou know I'm diggin'um, so sad to see them fall into ruin...love the old homes of the South, the live oaks and the Spanish moss...AND the air!
ReplyDeleteLovely old homes, wish I could restore some of those poor babies that need so much attention. That one sure does look like some I saw in New Orleans,as well.
